Biomass for Wiltshire Bungalow
EFFECTA KOMPLETT - 20kW Wood Pellet Biomass Boiler and 3.6kW Solar PV System
Ecoliving installed an EFFECTA KOMPLETT 20kW Wood Pellet Biomass Boiler, with a built in coil, to provide instantaneous heating and hot water, to a 1960's bungalow on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border.
After conducting a detailed survey of the property, it was decided that, despite all efforts by the client to insulate the property, with the presence of suspended timber floors on the ground floor increasing the heat loss of the building, that the best solution would be a high temperature biomass boiler using the existing radiator system.
Biomass boilers, log or pellet, offer a complete central heating and hot water system. Heat from the burnt fuel is usually stored in a buffer vessel from where it is distributed to the house via radiators or under floor heating. Hot water demand is met directly via a coil in the buffer.
Pellets are made from sawdust and the best quality come from 100% virgin timber. Normally stored in a hopper, the pellets are transferred by a mechanical auger or by vacuum 'suction'.
Biomass System Installed
Effecta Komplett 20kW with built in coil for instantaneous hot water running through the integrated 200L buffer vessel, giving mains pressure hot water without the need for an additional hot water cylinder. This was sited in the existing boiler room.
The automatic shunt group controlled by the controller monitors the system. There is also 3kW immersion back up. The unit was supplied with a 5.7m3 hopper, located in the garage.
