The Ecoliving Story So Far
Ecoliving Ltd was established in 2004 by Mark Henderson, Keith Kemsley and Colin Kerr.
Passionate about the environment and inspired by how his wife's compatriots in Sweden were tackling energy efficiency, Mark recognised the huge potential to make a real difference in the UK where the challenge of climate change was just dawning. He spent time in Sweden researching the fast adoption of heat pumps in particular. The market was well established in 2004 with a broad range of tried and tested heat pump solutions from world-beating Swedish manufacturers.
The move to renewable energy sources in Sweden was a result of the energy crisis in the mid 1970s, which led to new legislation and a search for innovative, energy saving techniques. Hundreds of thousands of heat pumps, for example, are heating hospitals, schools, businesses and homes in Sweden which has a population of just 9 million.
Mark teamed up with former clients Keith Kemsley and Colin Kerr which brought about a fusion of their combined marketing, sales, operations, financial and distribution experience from across a variety of businesses.
The Ecoliving brand was born, installers were recruited, trained and supported through their first installations and the business was established as a specialist distributor of renewable energy heating systems.
The growth of the business has been fast thanks to Ecoliving's technical expertise and the support delivered to customers as well as increasing market awareness of the need for sustainable energy. Ecoliving now has technical sales staff supporting installers and customers throughout the UK.
Over the last few years, Ecoliving has supported installers through many hundreds of installations. Working closely with manufacturers, Ecoliving provides design advice and training for installers as well as back-up before, during and following installation.
Towards the end of 2006, Ecoliving became a preferred supplier for the Scottish Government's Renewables Heating Pilot managed by the Energy Saving Trust (EST). Working closely with EST, Ecoliving supported key installers with the retro-fitting of 50 heat pumps in clusters throughout Scotland. These are now part of a national monitoring campaign. Further key heating upgrade projects have since been completed with Registered Social Landlords.
In July 2008, Ecoliving as approved under the new REAL Microgeneration Certification Scheme to access grant funding towards heat pumps on behalf on non-certified installers.
The increasing awareness of the benefits of renewables at a micro level along with tightening legislation affecting the built environment has fuelled a continuing, strong growth. The Ecoliving team has grown to 20 and there are exciting expansion plans being developed.
